What is this?
Using photos for teaching and learning means that you integrate photography into your teaching and the process through which kids learn. It offers an alternate way to complete assignments and to do activities and can be very engaging!
Why is this important?
Using photos can help students visualize what they are learning about in a new unique way. They can help students look at things through a different lens. If you would go ask the students to go and photograph "love", you would get many different types of pictures back! It allows kids to express themselves through a different medium, and this can allow them to thrive!
I believe that using photos in a learning environment are an excellent stimulant to a child's learning. It gives them something other than staring at a worksheet, book or whiteboard to do. Something that is interactive and engaging, photos can be used in many different contexts for many different learning outcomes.
How I will us Photo for Teaching
Here are a couple examples of how I could use pictures to strengthen my teaching. The first being an illustrated how to guide where you use pictures to help your students follow along to a guide. The second is a virtual tour, a way for your students to explore a place without having to actually travel there.
Access to those documents is available through the links should you choose to explore them more or even use them yourself.
Illustrated How to Guide: Installing DuoLingo on your iPad
Here is a guide I made informing someone on how to install and set up DuoLingo on their iPad. I made this using Google Slides, giving directions on how to follow along in large easy to read instructions along with screenshots of the process. Below is a screenshot of one of the slides in presentation mode:

Virtual Tour: Welcome to Dassel MN
Here is a small virtual tour of my hometown and some important or cool places around town. I also created this on Google Slides, with short description of each image. Below is a screenshot of on of those slides in presentation mode.

How I will have my Students use Photos for Learning
Below is an example of a way you incorporate photos into a classroom activity.
Example Activity: Finding Object of Different Colors in the Classroom
This is an activity for students to show their knowledge of colors, whether is is a primary color or not and what colors mix to make it if not. This is a fairly basic example, but shows how you can use photos to assess learning about a subject. It's also a fun way for student to get out and demonstrate what they have learned in a different way!
