New Homes, Everywhere!
Lots and lots of housing was made available to people through FHA loans that helped them buy homes. However, not all homes were available to all people. In the picture below, you see an advertisement for over 260 new homes, and asking you to investigate FHA terms. What it doesn't say on the sign is that those FHA terms meant that only white people could buy these new homes.
DBQs:
- How do you think this made Black families feel, seeing this sign and knowing they couldn't buy these homes?
- What do you think about this sign being displayed so openly, knowing what it really means?
- Think back to the previous pictures, what kind of homes do you think these ones in the advertisement would be like?
